Letters to Young Artists

This book teaches different ways for artists to deal with insecurities they will face through their career. The story I read was by Gregory Amenoff and it was truly inspiring. In his letter he is illustrating to the audience how to become more confident in their work, while also being humble. By doing things such as seeing your studio as your sanctuary and reading biographies of older artist, then an artist would become more confident. Also, activities like supporting fellow artists easily helps other artist with their confidence. One thing the Amenoff said that was interesting was for an artist to go to museums rather than art shows, because looking at older art would be more inspiring. I felt this connected to me because sometimes I feel competitive even though I know art is not meant to be a competition. Therefore I like looking at pieces that are from historic artists, it has a different feel, as if I am studying and looking for inspiration.
